Veronica Burns

Handmade Glass

21 July – 31 August 2007

Veronica Burns studied textile design at the Sydney College of the Arts and established her own business in 1982. Her interest in glass as a medium led to the production of this range of tableware. Veronica draws her inspiration from native Australian plants, geometric shapes and her own imagination to create this beautiful and elegant body of glassware.

The glass is both hand-painted and screen printed in glass enamels before being placed onto a ceramic mould. At a temperature of 790 C the glass is soft enough to slump into the mould and take on the desired shape; the enamel fusing into the glass. In some cases the design is fired between two pieces of glass.

Veronica Burns now lives and works in her studio with her husband, a writer near Canberra.
